The smallest changes can make a big difference when it comes to how we feel about ourselves, so follow these tips and you’d be surprised at how great you could feel!
Eat Nutritious Foods
Next up, you should eat as many nutritious foods as you can. Our gut health and mental health are very closely related, so when we’re not fueling our body with the right kinds of food, it can seriously impact our mood and how we feel about ourselves. So, when we focus on eating nutritious foods and looking after ourselves, it benefits both our physical health and mental health. Cooking yourself a nutritious food is also a good way to unwind after work!
Rather than cutting anything out, instead, focus on positive things you can add to your diet. Adding one probiotic rich food (yoghurt, kefir, miso, kimchi, sourdough), two fibre rich foods (beans, lentils, whole grains, fresh fruit and veg, nuts and seeds), and other nutrient rich foods (oily fish, lean proteins), can really transform how you feel about yourself and your body.
Over time, eating more of these foods will naturally make you healthier (from your hair health to skin, weight maintenance and everything in between), however this isn’t the main goal here. Change up your diet this week, eat more of the foods above and by looking after yourself, you will feel the benefits mentally, too.
Have A Social Media Cleanse
Another really positive thing that you can do to help your confidence is to have a social media cleanse. As much as people preach about being your ‘authentic self’ on social media, unfortunately a lot of what you’ll be saying will be heavily edited and filtered content that sets completely unrealistic expectations and doesn’t actually reflect anyone's real life. A lot of the time, the big smiles and happy memories we see online aren’t real, yet they have the power to make us feel inadequate or unsatisfied with our own lives.
So, go through all of your followers and if there are any accounts that make you feel this way, then unfollow them. Instead, focus on following positive accounts that provide value to you, whether it’s someone who shows inspiration on how to dress with a similar body type to yours, someone who cooks delicious and nutritious food that is easy to make, someone who is open and honest about their struggles as a parent or overall just positive accounts that help you to feel your best, rather than do the opposite.
Get To Know Yourself With Solo Dates
Lastly, you should get to know yourself with solo dates. Often in life we spend time looking after everyone but ourselves, yet put ourselves last in our list of priorities. If we’re not taking the time and effort to get to know ourselves and do nice things for ourselves, of course it’s going to be difficult for us to truly love ourselves. So, sit down and make a list of all the different things you’d like to do, either to treat yourself or get to know yourself better.
This might be heading to a library and reading a few different books to see what you enjoy, spending the afternoon listening to albums on a nice afternoon walk, doing an at home spa night, buying yourself flowers and arranging them, getting dressed up in your favourite going out dresses and going for a meal, planning a beach day, trying a new fitness class, visiting a local market or cooking yourself a delicious meal.
These are just a few examples of what you can do, but the world is literally your oyster! This is all about spending time on your own and feeling comfortable with it, an important step in self love and self care. It might feel strange and uncomfortable to begin with, but will soon start to be something you enjoy!
